Rob's GNAT Page

The GNAT (Great Nick Andrews Trike) is a new trike under development by Nick Abercrombie Andrews.

Alan Beaumont will be handling production and sales of the kits.

GNAT Features:

It folds!!!

Full suspension!

3 x 20 inch wheels, twin hub brakes.

IT FOLDS - folded package 3ft x 3ft x 1ft.

Price expected to be about GBP1400 for the machine in kit form. Available Summer 1999..

Test ride in progress!!! Ride Report Coming Soon...

Initial Impressions:

The suspension really works!

The ride quality is superb...

Ok, so the pack size is a little bigger than I expected, and the machine I am borrowing (Many thanks to Tom Patton!) is a little heavier than the production machines will be... but it does pack small enough to be sent by courier and was small enough to be carried home from the office in my Columbus trailer...

Kit Details (11/4/99)

1, The production kits will be in GRP with carbon fibre front axle carriers (with full carbon fibre as a cost option). Ir is currently planned to use an aluminium honeycomb in the GRP.

2, On the first production models the 3x7 hub will not fit without major reworking of the rear mould (the 3x7 rear end will follow later).

3, Price (as yet not fixed!) seems to be working out in the region of GBP1400-1500 for the kit.

Alan Beaumont told me in an email message this week that he expected that the first few kits may be offered at less than full spec at reduced cost, He sees the full production kit something like this:-

Front, middle and rear mouldings in GRP

Front axle carriers in carbon fibre

All metal parts i.e. wishbones, steering assembly, seat back, rear dropouts/gear hanger, front changer tube etc. (all powder coated)

All aluminium brackets (all anodised)

Bits and pieces i.e. front suspension parts, rear suspension rubber, front axle, stub axles, ball joints, rose joints, pulley etc

All nuts, bolts and washers required (all in stainless steel)

Rims, spokes front drums etc.

Full assembly instructions and drilling templates.

Buyer to drill mouldings (using templates), bolt everything together and supply drivetrain i.e. all standard 'bike shop bits' to their own spec.

More details as they become available...
